RI-2B |
These units are designed as necklace mounts for gallinaceous birds from quail to capercaillie. They can be configured for glue mounting or fitted with tubes for harness attachment to raptors.
Frequency Range: 138 to 235 MHz.
Transmitter: Crystal controlled two-stage design, pulsed by a CMOS multivibrator.
Pulse Width & Rate: 20 to 30 ms, nominal 0.7 p/s (42 p/m).
Specifications:| Model | Weight | Nominal Life | Lifespan range | Dimensions Diameter x H (mm) |
| RI-2B | 6g | 6 months | 3-9 months | 21 x 8 |
| RI-2B | 10g | 12 months | 9-18 months | 24 x 10 |
| RI-2B | 15g | 24 months | 18-30 months | 25 x 13 |
Housing: The battery and transmitter are encapsulated in an inert waterproof epoxy.
Attachment: A number of mounting options are available, such as an elastic or Dacron line neckloop, tubes for the passage of harness material, or a wire loop for attachment to a necklace. See diagrams below.
Antenna: Stranded stainless steel cable covered with a black nylon coating. Two layers of shrinkable tubing reinforce the antenna at its base.
Activation: Removing an external magnet starts the transmitter. Replacing it stops the transmitter.
Mortality (suffix "M"): The available delays are 4 or 12 hours. The 4 hour delay circuit indicates its activation by a double pulse. The 12 hour delay circuit indicates its activation by increasing the pulse rate from a nominal ~42 p/m to ~75 p/m. After the mortality mode has been triggered, any motion resets the transmitter to the normal pulse rate. This option adds ~0.5g to the finished weight of each transmitter.
Activity (suffix "A"): Every motion event exceeding a preset range of angles generates one extra pulse between the normal pulses. This activity pulse is distinctively shorter (~12 ms) than the normal pulses. This option adds ~0.5g to the finished weight of each transmitter.
Position (suffix "P"): The pulse rate switches from ~24 p/m to ~50 p/m when the animal changes body position, pivoting the transmitter 10° or more from a preset orientation. This option adds ~0.5g to the finished weight of each transmitter.
