SB-2F, SI-2F & AI-2F |
These units are designed to be mounted on the carapace of turtles.
Frequency Range: 138 to 235 MHz.
Transmitter: SB-2F: Crystal controlled two-stage design, pulsed by
a multivibrator.
SI-2F & AI-2F: Crystal controlled two-stage design, pulsed by
a CMOS multivibrator.
Pulse Width & Rate: SB-2F: Pulse width 20-23 ms, pulse rate nominal 0.67 p/s (40 p/m).
SI-2F: Pulse width 22-24 ms, pulse rate nominal 0.7 p/s (42 p/m).
AI-2F: Pulse width 25-30 ms, pulse rate nominal 0.7 p/s (42 p/m).

Power Output: Set to use available battery power over the required transmitter life.
Housing: The battery and transmitter are hermetically sealed in a brass case.
Attachment: Brass tabs are attached at the mid-point or at the ends for screw attachment to a turtle carapace. The transmitter is usually mounted above a back leg.
Antenna: Stranded stainless steel cable, covered with a black nylon coating. Additional layers of shrinkable tubing and/or a spring reinforce the antenna at its base.
Activation: Removing an external magnet starts the transmitter. Replacing it stops the transmitter.
Mortality (suffix "M"): AI-2F only. The available delays are 4 or 12 hours. Note: The 4 hour delay is only available in the 30g size. The 4 hour delay circuit indicates its activation by a double pulse. The 12 hour delay circuit indicates its activation by increasing the pulse rate from a nominal ~42 p/m to ~75 p/m. After the mortality mode has been triggered, any motion resets the transmitter to the normal pulse rate. This option adds ~0.5g to the finished weight of each transmitter.
